In Mark 1, Jesus began to introduce the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. In this world there is a dual kingdom in operation, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. 
Hebrews 1 teaches us that Jesus is Lord, and has been given all authority and is the head of the Church. Ephesians 2 teaches us that Satan is the head or the influence of the sinner's life. In this world you are serving one of these two kingdoms. You are either serving the kingdom of God or you are serving the kingdom of Satan.
It's God's purpose for believers to expand the kingdom of God and overcome the kingdom of Satan through the authority we're given through Jesus Christ. It's not God's purpose for Christians to struggle through life consequently being ineffective in reaching the lost.
